Fort Lauderdale Celebrates the 41st Annual Boat Parade and WinterfestDecember 14, 2012
The Seminole Hardrock Casino is presenting the Boat Parade this year and it is one of the largest events in Fort Lauderdale. It has grown into a non profit with national and local sponsors and the events are spread out the entire weekend, and culminate with the famous Boat Parade. Events in Winterfest include a golf tournament, Black Tie Ball, Grand Marshall Reception, which have historically been top bill celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Brooke Burke, the Winterfest White Party, Family Fun Days, and the main event, the Boat Parade. Past themes for the boat parade have included, Magical Movie Moments, Rockin the Night Aweigh, That’s Entertainment, and Taste of Paradise. Local Artists and organizations participate in decorating boats lavishly and playfully for all of Fort Lauderdale to enjoy.
This year the festivities are sponsored by Southern Wine and Spirits and Moet and Chandon and the theme is “Musical Memories.” Members of New York’s Broadway show Wicked will be performing and an actual replica of an 1812 ship, and The Lynx, a giant reindeer, will be featured in the show. There are a number of excellent viewing locations from around the city and many of the premier condomiums along the intracoastal have roof top pools that host parties as well as the most popular viewing area, The Grand Viewing, in the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, which is a festival in itself. Not only is this event an excellent time to get in the holiday spirit, but it also donates to a chosen charity each year. If you are unable to make this spectacle, WSVN Channel 7 in conjunction with Comcast produces a 1 hour televised event that runs locally and nationally. Over 1 million spectators come out for this event, and it is the largest one day spectator event in Florida. Just another wonderful reason to be a resident of Fort Lauderdale!
